Effingham Road bays and projecting gables
On Effingham Road, late 19th and early 20th century detached houses use bays and projecting gables. Within that named Long Ditton group, each bay face and angle still needs direct measurement, and the shutter frame should be read against the actual window rather than the age label.
We inspect every hinge and frame junction, compare panel divisions with the glazing and trace changed gaps around the bay. A stable assembly can support re-hanging or focused repair, while restoration is assessed when several working parts and the finish of retained panels need coordinated attention. On Effingham Road, the projecting gable may frame the bay externally, but the repair evidence comes from the separate interior faces, their hinge loads and whether the panel gaps remain consistent through movement.
