Do you fit shutters to 1930s curved bay windows in New Malden?

For fitting-only work, a curved bay is checked section by section. We compare each customer-owned shutter panel and frame with its part of the opening, then confirm the set has the required clearance and alignment.

How do I get a price for a New Malden repair?

Send photographs by WhatsApp showing the complete curved or angled opening and a close-up of the failed component. We can identify the likely scope first, then confirm the work and price after inspecting the hardware and frame.

Why is the panel order important when fitting shutters to a New Malden bay?

Each panel and frame section relates to a specific face, hinge position and opening direction. Changing the sequence can alter gaps and cause panels to strike each other, so the complete supplied order is checked before fitting. See the bay shutter fitting guide for details.

What video helps diagnose a rubbing panel in a New Malden curved bay?

Record the panel only if it moves without force. Start with the full bay, then show the panel opening slowly until the first contact point appears. Stop if a hinge moves in the frame or the panel feels insecure. See what is included in a shutter repair assessment.

Local repair, fitting and restoration work in New Malden

New Malden includes 1930s semi-detached homes with curved bays and Victorian terraces towards Norbiton. Curved and angled openings need each shutter and frame facet checked for size, alignment and clearance. We offer fitting-only for suitable customer-owned shutters and repair existing sets after inspecting the hardware and frames.

Beverley Way curved Crittall bays

East of Beverley Way, six pairs of 1937 Art Deco semis have curved Crittall windows, curved glass and curved bays. That curved form is specific to this group, not every New Malden bay.

A curved window needs its handle movement and shutter-frame joints checked section by section. We compare each supplied frame piece with the opening; the set's overall width cannot establish whether those sections follow the curve correctly. Keep any supplied panel-order drawing with the photographs so we can check how the frame sections are intended to meet.

Family-house bays, flats and rear extensions

Beyond the Beverley Way group, New Malden includes bay-fronted family houses, older homes with taller windows, flats and rear extensions with broader glazing.

On an existing front bay, we follow hinge condition and frame alignment across the angles before recommending re-hanging or repair. At a wide rear opening or apartment window, fitting shutters already owned by the customer depends on complete hardware, accurate panel order and enough space around doors, handles and the panels' final resting position. Label photographs by room and panel position so a front-bay repair is not confused with a separate fitting enquiry at the rear.

What we check before recommending work in New Malden

The visible fault is only one part of the decision. We also check the supporting frame, connected hardware and how the complete shutter moves in the real opening.

What the visible fault may be connected to

On a curved or angled New Malden bay, a rubbing panel can reflect movement at a hinge, frame joint or neighbouring facet. We compare the full sequence of gaps before adjusting the visible contact point.

fitting

Checks for shutters you already own

A customer-owned set must correspond to each bay section, including its angle and panel order. We check frame pieces, fixings, handles and swing clearance separately because a total width does not prove that the supplied geometry fits the opening.

restoration

When restoration remains a sound option

A sound older set can be restored when its structure still follows the bay and the work centres on hardware, alignment and finish. Distorted frame sections or panels that no longer hold their shape need a compatibility decision before refinishing.

What to send for an initial New Malden assessment

For a New Malden bay, send a full straight-on view and one photograph square to every facet. Label the panels in order, then add the rubbing point, hinges and frame joints. Include measurements only after the complete geometry is visible.

One full view showing the shutter, frame and complete opening.
Close-ups of every affected part and where it connects.
A short movement video only when the shutter remains secure and moves without force.

Check a customer-owned bay shutter set

New Malden's curved and angled bays cannot be assessed from overall width alone; every face and frame junction affects the fit.
